ISO 639 Language lists: Introduction

ISO 639 specifies both 2- and 3-letter codes for indicating a language. The codes are used for the value of the lang= attribute. (Remember, almost every element has a lang= attribute--it is a global attribute.) You should use the 3-letter codes. However, a list of the 2-letter codes is included here for reference purposes (should you come across some in texts transcribed before we firmly decided to stick with the 3-letter codes).
