Encoding Instructions (new P5 version)

The align keyword is used to indicate the horizontal location (the longitude) of elements whose horizontal position can vary from side to side (for instance, mw and stage) but whose vertical position is fixed by where they are encoded. The align keyword is different in this respect from the place keyword, which indicates both vertical and horizontal position for elements which can appear anywhere on the page, and whose position is not indicated by where they appear in the stream of encoded text (for instance, note, add, addSpan, etc.).

The align keyword can have the values “right”, “left”, “center”, “inside”, and “outside”.

Examples

A stage direction, aligned right and bracketed:
        <stage type="delivery" rend="align(right)braced()">Softly</stage>
A chapter heading, aligned center and small-caps:
        <head rend="align(center)case(smallcaps)">Chapter Three:</head>
