Encoding the appearance of the source document is deceptively simple: the TEI provides a single attribute, the rend attribute, with which to represent all renditional information. For projects that wish to encode that information in detail, however, there are a number of issues that require careful consideration to ensure consistency and expressiveness in the encoding.
