Textbase Table of Contents

TOC Page Screendump

This page is the entry point to the textbase. The RWO subset of the textbase also has a Table of Contents page, although the list of texts is a subset of the whole textbase. From this page, you can select any text or subsection of a text for browsing.

The Options at the Top of the Page

Top of Page options

  • Search: Click this link to go directly to the Search page, from which you can formulate queries to search the textbase.

  • Frames View: All pages that display tables of contents, browsable views of texts or of search results can be viewed in your browser either using multiple frames (Frames View) or in a single window, (No-Frames View). For more information on using frames, see documentation on About the System: Browsers, Dynaweb and Frames

Use this link to toggle between Frames View and No-Frames View. The Table of Contents is best viewed as a single window, as there is little other information that can be displayed in a second window. If you do select Frames View you will see the titles of the works in a scrollable window on the left, and an introductory screen to the textbase on the right. Clicking on a title will bring the text up in the right-hand window. For more information on browsing texts in single or multiple windows, see Browsing the Textbase. For more information on using Frames and No-Frames views, see documentation on About the System: Browsers, Dynaweb and Frames.

  • Help and Doc: Click this link for context sensitive help. You will see this help page.

  • Print: This link isn't active yet. When it is enabled, you will be able to use it to print whole or partial texts.

The Table of Contents

Title as it appears in TOC

The Table of Contents lists all the texts that are available in electronic form in the textbase (or in the RWO subset, if you are viewing the RWO table of contents). Texts are listed by author's last name, followed by the title and the date of publication. Works of anonymous authors are listed as [unknown]. Pseudonymous works are listed by the author's true name, if known.

Click on the author or title of a work to browse that work, starting at the title page.

Title expanded in TOC

The right-pointing arrow at the left of a title Arrow indicating more content indicates that the the text has subsections. If you click on the arrow, you will see an expanded table of contents with the first level of subsection, for that work. The arrow will now point down to indicate that you are at the expanded view. Note that subsections may also be preceded by a right-pointing arrow if there are further subsections. You can click on the arrow to view them as well.

You may click on the title of any subsection to start browsing the text at that point.
