Known Bugs and Problems in the New Women Writers Online Interface
The new Women Writers Online interface remains a work in progress. We are making it available as a public “beta” release so that our users can begin to familiarize themselves with its features while also helping us to identify bugs and other problems that we haven't yet discovered in our own testing. This page lists problems that we are already aware of and are working to resolve; if you encounter any of the problems listed here there is no need to report them.
For best results, we strongly recommend using a fully up-to-date and standards-compliant web browser. We have had the best results with Chrome, Firefox 8/9/10, Safari 4/5, and Internet Explorer 9.
Display of search results
- Clicking on an individual search hit in the results list will load the full text, but it does not yet take you directly to the correct location in the text
- There is presently no way to see the full keyword-in-context report for a given text
Display of the reading text
- Display handling of gaps in the transcription is not yet fully implemented
- In some browsers, popups for textual notes will occasionally be partially obscured by the edge of the browser window or other features on the page
Timeline
- Under certain circumstances, dates do not render on the timeline; in these cases, resizing the window slightly will usually cause the timeline dates to be redrawn properly
- On computers with limited memory, resetting the timeline after making a selection may take several seconds
Internet Explorer
- No support for Internet Explorer 7 or earlier
- Screen widths below 880 pixels are not yet fully supported
- Scrolling performance in results and full text views can be slow, particularly on older computers with limited memory
- Timeline does not display
